Coaching this age group
Coaches call U9-11 the "golden age of learning" for a reason: kids at this age absorb technique faster than at any other stage, and habits built here — good or bad — tend to stick. TouchTight's U9-11 library is built around that window. Sessions still centre on the individual: first touch, dribbling under pressure, striking the ball with both feet, all repeated inside game-realistic constraints rather than static drills. Small-sided games (5v5, 7v7) start introducing the first real tactical ideas — spreading out, supporting the ball carrier, defending as a unit of two or three — without turning into a formation lecture. This is also where decision-making under light pressure gets coached deliberately: a rondo with a defender added, a possession game with a one-touch zone, a 1v1 with a support option. The best U9-11 sessions still feel like games first, but every game has a clear technical or decision-making theme a coach can point to afterwards. Get the habits right here and the tactical layer at U12+ has something real to build on.
What's in the U9-11 library
Individual technique under pressure
First touch, dribbling and striking, coached inside small games — not cone slaloms in isolation.
5v5 & 7v7 small-sided games
The first real positional shape, kept light — spacing and support, not a formation sheet.
Decision-making games
Rondos and possession constraints that force a read-and-react choice, not a scripted pass.
Confidence on both feet
Two-footed finishing and passing games that quietly kill the "strong foot only" habit early.
