Ipswich 0-2 Liverpool: what the first nine minutes taught us

Liverpool waited two league games for their first win of the season. At Portman Road, they needed nine minutes to take control of it.

The movement that opened the game

For the first goal, Gakpo moved infield and received with a forward picture. Isak was already positioned to attack the space between defender and goalkeeper. One firm pass, one touch and a powerful finish at the near post.

That changed the rest of the match. Ipswich had to take more risk, while Liverpool could decide when to press and when to manage the game. The second half was quieter, but that was not necessarily a weakness. A team leading 2-0 away from home does not need to turn every possession into another attack.
